WEINGUT NIKLAS

My first experience with Dieter Solva, owner and winemaker of Weingut Niklas was an interesting one. At first, an empty table at the Prowein wine fair in Dusseldorf with Dieter and his wife. Chris and I were gracefully hosted and uninterrupted to taste...for about five minutes. Then one by one, agents from around Europe-Germany, Italy, Scandanavia approached the table with their buyers. I noticed the unmistakable smile of a wine geek salesman that knows their producer is going to make an impression. The highlight to top it all of was when other winemakers from the Suditrol came to pay their respects to the DON, Mr Dieter Solva. That said, we cannot claim to have ‘discovered’ the great wines of Niklas but we feel fortunate to be slinging them in MN. We bring to you four selections to start. The style here is poignant and impactful- pitchfork tuned to the typicity of terrior in the Alto Adige with an under-beam of seriousness that seems characteristic to this craftsman.
