Cantina di Carpi, 'Piazza Grande' Lambrusco, Modena, ITA
This pink hued, semi sparkling offering from Northern Italy is the ultimate aperitiv wine. High toned aromas of strawberry, raspberry and subtle citrus undertones. The wine is extremely bright and fresh, with a clean finish and a mouthwatering amount of acidity . This wine is remarkably versatile in its ability to pair with anything you want to throw at it, and is wonderfully refreshing and enjoyable on its own. The bubbles are more frothy than zippy, but still uber refreshing.
Le Havre de Paix, Gascogne Blanc, Southwest, FRA
This is a classic white blend from the Gascogne region of Southwestern France. The major blending grapes here are colombard, ugni blanc and sauvignon blanc. Ugni Blanc is arguably more famous as the grape used in distillation of famous Cognacs and Armagnacs. Stylistically, the wine is reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc, with a core of bright citrus, with herbal and floral undertones. The wine is aged in stainless steel, so meant to preserve freshness and brightness.
Moonshot, Red Wine, Sonoma Valley, CA
This offering is a small-production, single vineyard bottling from Kenwood CA in the Sonoma Valley AVA. The predominant varietal here is merlot from the Moongate Vineyard, and the flavor profile is ripe red fruits (think raspberry and black cherry). The wine is plush and soft but shows nice freshness and a little bit of structure, coming from the addition of a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon from Knight's Valley to the northeast of Kenwood. The wine rested in French Oak barrels for nearly 20 months prior to bottling, giving it time to round out and mature a bit, which results in a wonderfully accessible selection on its own. Just over 600 cases were produced.
